Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is a measure of heat stress that accounts for temperature, humidity, wind speed, and radiant heat. Unlike simple heat index, WBGT provides a complete picture of environmental heat load.
- Wet Bulb: Measures humidity's cooling effect (evaporative cooling potential)
- Dry Bulb: Standard air temperature reading
- Globe: Measures radiant heat from sun, equipment, and surfaces
WBGT Formula
Outdoor (with sun):
WBGT = 0.7(Tw) + 0.2(Tg) + 0.1(Td)
Where:
- Tw = Wet bulb temperature
- Tg = Black globe temperature
- Td = Dry bulb (air) temperature
